World Chess Hall of Fame Closed?

October 7th, 2009 Miami, Florida
After finally arriving in Ft. Lauderdale aiport, what do you think was the first thing I did? Hit the sunny waters at Miami Beach? Kayak the Oleta River? Mountain bike the trails of the State Park? NO. I decided to hop in my rental and go straight to the World Chess Hall of Fame (http://www.chessmuseum.org/). I was actually excited to see it. To my disappointment, this is what I saw...

A building filled with only construction workers and empty rooms. No Fischer-Spassky world championship table. No ancient chess pieces to see. No US Chess history to learn. Apparently, it closed last month. They had a sign on the front door about moving locations and to call the museum's number or visit the before mentioned website for info. BUT (!!) that is the very website that led me there! The number they mentioned is OUT OF SERVICE!

God forbid their President, Shane Samole, does his job and makes sure the museum's website is updated so people don't waste their time traveling there.

Bummer dude, my condolences...

Update Oct 28th, 2009

The website is finally down! Was it my email that did it?! Or the post?! I would also like to add that the museum still advertised in the October Chess Life (depsite the museum being closed/moved). Whoever advertises for the museum is just as competent as the President, Shane Samole.

SSamole@uschesstrust.org (the website listed this as the President's address, but I got it kicked back to me)
shanesamole@att.net (what Microsoft Exchange gave as his email address when I clicked on his email address)

The second email address did work and my email notifying him of the museum being closed was sent through. I have yet to hear a response- I was waiting for a “Thanks”! It has been over two weeks since I sent it.

I understand his wife became very ill and finally he had to let go of the museum.

shane and his incompetent cronies at excalibur bankrupted the whole shebang--electronics co. and museum over a year ago...
